How to Navigate

"They might have guns, but we have flowers."

ISIS has become the deadliest killing machine across the globe today - this  ever-expanding terrorist “state” is killing faster than with what the statistics can keep up. Evident by the terrorist attacks carried out internationally, ISIS is no longer a Middle Eastern problem. It is a global issue that is targeting ordinary citizens, people just like you and me. ISIS’s growth strategy is a two-pronged one - not only does the organization target ordinary civilians through their indiscriminate terrorist attacks, it also targets lonely, vision-less individuals around the world and eventually lure them into recruitment. Through this blog, we want to emphasize that ISIS isn’t JUST a killing machine - it is a strategic and sophisticated social media powerhouse that exploits its social media skills- especially on Twitter- to seduce ordinary citizens of both sexes to join ISIS. The current media tends to focus on the military aspect of ISIS; Therefore, this blog aims to raise awareness about the sheer danger of ISIS recruitment, often veiled by the bloody, sensationalist nature of ISIS activity.

In this blog, we first provide background information on ISIS as an organization and the organization’s scope and influence on Social Media. This blog contains a sundry of relevant and up-to-date news regarding ISIS recruitment, ISIS’s social media activity, and the recent counterattack strategy by a hackers group called Anonymous. We also provide an in-depth summary of case studies dealing with different individuals from the US, the UK, and South Korea who were all subjected to the enticement of ISIS recruitment. We will be updating the blog periodically in order to provide the most informed and comprehensive analysis of this issue.

  1. That video made my heart melt when I first saw it a few days after the Paris attacks. In the midst of these heinous crimes, parents and children like them allow me to restore my faith in humanity. I completely support this blog in what it aims to do and I truly hope this blog will allow one less individual falling prey to ISIS social media propaganda.
